As our goal is not only education, but also raising the standards of safety and quality in canyoning guiding in Slovenia and beyond, the Slovenian Canyoning Association (SoZS) also provides a system for the recognition of prior learning and experience for candidates who have already developed their competencies through practice or within other recognized training systems.
This approach is not a shortcut, but a professional assessment of existing competencies in accordance with SoZS standards.
The process is intended for candidates who have several years of experience in canyoning guiding, or have been trained within recognized organizations (ICA, Kärntner Schluchtenführer, Tirol Schluchtenführer, IFMGA, etc.). Candidates in this process do not skip the rigor of the program – their knowledge is assessed through:
theoretical examination, covering key professional areas
practical examination in a real environment, where decision-making, technique, and safety are evaluated
This is a comprehensive assessment ensuring that all licensed guides meet the same standard, regardless of their training pathway.
To enter the assessment process, it is required to hold a valid Swiftwater Rescue Technician license (Program C) and to submit an application for recognition of prior training with appropriate supporting documentation. Each candidate is assessed individually, as we aim to precisely evaluate the scope and quality of previously acquired competencies.
The objective of this approach is:
to maintain a high professional standard of canyoning guiding
to enable transparent recognition of knowledge acquired elsewhere
to connect different training systems into a common framework of quality
If you believe that your experience meets the requirements, we invite you to contact us via email and present your background, experience, and acquired qualifications.
Based on your application, we will provide further guidance regarding the process.
